Seasonal workforce meets the Employment Rights Act

The problem

A grower-packer relying on seasonal and variable-hours workers had heard about the zero hours changes but had no idea what they meant in practice. Contracts hadn't been reviewed in years, and peak season was approaching.

What I did

I mapped actual hours worked against contracts, rebuilt the contracts for compliance with ERA 2025, created a practical approach to guaranteed-hours obligations and shift notice, and put the business on a monthly retainer so nothing drifts out of date again.

The outcome

The business went into peak season knowing exactly where it stood, with compliant contracts, a plan for the new obligations, and a fixed monthly cost instead of unpredictable firefighting fees.
