The disciplinary that was about to go wrong

The problem

A transport manager suspended a driver on the spot after an alleged safety breach. No investigation, no letter, nothing in writing. By the time the owner called, the driver had already mentioned a solicitor, and the company had no disciplinary policy to fall back on.

What I did

I took over the process the same day. I put the suspension on a proper footing in writing, appointed an independent investigator, ran a fair investigation and hearing, and coached the manager through his role before each step.

The outcome

The process concluded with a sanction that stuck. Because the procedure was fair and documented, no claim followed. The company now has a disciplinary policy and trained managers, so the next one doesn't start with a panic call.
